What a day we had!

When we decided to hold a ‘mini competition’ in conjunction with Steppin’ In Line’s Jennifer Hughes Workshop and Social on Saturday 16th February we really had no idea what to expect.

For our first comp we kept the sections to a minimum:

  • 21 Years & Under Duo
  • Over 21 Years Duo
  • Novice Solo (for competitors who have danced in less than 3 competitions)
    • Down at the Honky Tonk’ choreographed by Darren Mitchell
  • Open Solo
    •  (I Wanna Love Like That Again choreographed by Jennifer Hughes)
  • Mixed Age Team
  • Open Country Team
  • Instructor/Student Team

The Novice Solo was our biggest event with 17 entries, which was unbelievable, and the standard for a Novice section was very high. I’m glad I wasn’t one of the judges!

There were teams from Calliope Line Dancers, Let’s Go! Linedancin’ & Steppin’ In Line – Sunshine Coast , Danceversity Line Dancers – Brisbane, Childers Country Chaos, Nicole – All Stars, Lisa and Marie from Sydney and Noel and Helen from Brisbane. Unfortunately the team from Uber Line Dancers had to pull out at short notice due to an illness.

Thank you to all the teams for your support, and congratulations to you all on such a successful comp. We hope that you enjoyed the morning and found our first competition friendly and fun.

There are so many people to thank –

Firstly, to the lovely Jennifer Hughes who was our head judge. The judging panel was professional and efficient. Thanks for happily taking on the job without hesitation when approached and for being so encouraging and supportive to QLDA.

To our other judges Melody Tummers, Stacey Breed and Luke Watson (who was roped in at the last minute) for your encouraging comments and smiling faces.

Thank you to our MC for the day, John Hughes, who kept the morning running smoothly and efficiently.  To our scorers, Jo Rosenblatt and Janelle Dean. Thank you! This job is as vital as the judging when it comes to working out the results.

Thank you to Cathryn Proudfoot who at the last minute couldn’t make it, helped me out by putting all the information on the score sheets, once again helping the morning run smoothly, especially for the judges.

Finally thank you to all the behind the scenes helpers from QLDA, Steppin’ In Line and Childers Country Chaos who all worked tirelessly to make this a great mornings event. It was a great team effort!!!!

Watch out for our next Mini Competition to be held in Childers on Saturday 20 July, 2019.
